We Say Goodbye to Longtime Friend of Operation Hope, Jean Sturges

The Town of Fairfield has lost a great one. Longtime friend of Operation Hope of Fairfield, and someone who made a tremendous impact in so many ways, Jean Sturges passed away March 1. Jean’s extraordinary generosity has left an indelible mark on this community, and her legacy will continue to be felt in the lives of everyone we serve. We are profoundly grateful for the time and spirit she shared with us. We send our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. Please read Jean’s full obituary here.

Easter Bags Delight Pantry Families

Hippity hoppity, Easter’s on it’s way! 🐰 We just received 25 adorable Easter gift bags through donations made to The Great Charity Gingerbread Project, which funded Easter goodies for over 100 children this year. The bags we received will be given to our Pantry clients with children. The bags are chock full of treats, including candy, toys, a chocolate bunny, filled eggs, a handmade chocolate dipped pretzel and more.

Thanks so much to Carole Canzoneri and her many volunteers and donors who prepared the Easter project for Operation Hope and other area non profits. This project requires many hands but most importantly, it’s done from the heart. We are so grateful to this group for always keeping our littlest neighbors in need in heart and mind. Thank you for making them feel so special all year round! 💛🤍

Congratulations to Carla on her Retirement!

🎉 Past and current members of Operation Hope of Fairfield’s Board of Directors were honored to host a retirement party for Executive Director Carla Miklos this week. It was a celebration of Carla’s tireless advocacy of homelessness, food insecurity and inequity, her steadfast leadership of the organization and profound impact over 19 years, and her way of making sure we are all working together to care for our neighbors in need 🫶🏽

Thank you to our neighbor First Church Congregational for opening their doors to host the party in the beautiful Wakeman Hall. To Board Chair Colleen Connor, thank you for spearheading this lovely celebration. The day of the party, March 26, happened to be Carla’s birthday, and was also declared “Carla Miklos Day” by Town of Fairfield, CT Christine Vitale/Fairfield First Selectperson. Thanks to her, Selectperson Brenda Kupchick and Selectperson Marcy Spolyar for this special recognition. We appreciate our Fairfield state legislators – State Senator Tony Hwang and State Representatives State Representative Jennifer Leeper, Cristin McCarthy Vahey and State Representative Sarah Keitt – for issuing an official citation in recognition of Carla 🏅Thank you to our staff and volunteers; without you, we cannot do what we do ❤️

And finally, to Board member Joan Ryan, Advisory Board member Sharon Risley and Events Manager Suzanne Francis…your coordination and attention to detail were evident in every part of the event. It was a truly memorable way to mark Carla’s milestone. Thank you for the time and effort you put into making it special 💐

Carla, your dedication to this community has left a lasting legacy, and you’ve truly earned this next chapter 💛 Our community is a better place because of your hard work and heart. We wish you a joyful and relaxing retirement! 🌻

Happy Birthday to our Executive Director, Carla Miklos!

Inspiring, caring and thoughtful, Carla tirelessly advocates for human rights for our neighbors in need ❤️ Our clients, our community and all of us here at Operation Hope of Fairfield are extremely fortunate to have her at the helm and in our corner. Carla, we wish you joy and happiness as you take another turn around the sun and in your next chapter ☀️🎂🌻

Christ the King in Trumbull Parish Donates Snack Bags to Operation Hope

As a Lenten service project, the faith formation community at Christ the King Church in Trumbull collected snacks from families and parishioners. The generosity of the parish was overwhelming. Last week, the parish gathered in the church hall where children and adults stuffed over 200 bags with water, fruit cups and snacks! The parish was particularly moved to learn the bags will be distributed to people on the streets by our Homeless Outreach Team and distributed in our Community Kitchen. This was explained to the students, the parish prayed for those in need and the pastor blessed the food. Snack bags were also made for Merton House in Bridgeport. This was an engaging service project for the children and a great lesson about caring for others. The parish hopes to make this an annual event! Thank you to the parish for its generosity, kindness and helping hands to care for our neighbors in need.
