We’ve Been Struck by Cupid’s Arrow for Valentine’s Day

Love in action! 🥰 Carole Canzoneri and her group of sweet volunteers are at it again! This time, we’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow for Valentine’s Day 💘

Thanks to Carole and team for once again spearheading the Have A Heart Valentine’s Day Project, which benefits many local non profits, including Operation Hope of Fairfield 🫶🏽

This lovely group gifted us 25 Valentine’s Day goodie bags full of treats, stickers and small toys for families served by our Pantry. And if that wasn’t enough, the group also gave us 25 blessing bags full of mini toiletries for our outreach team to distribute, as well as 25 blessing bags overflowing with healthy snacks to distribute in our Community Kitchen. Thank you to Carole + friends for generously donating all of the items and the time to package the bags. We are grateful for your big hearts to help our neighbors in need💞

Severe Cold Weather Protocol Extended through February 15

🥶🥶🥶 Governor Ned Lamont announced yesterday that he is extending the duration of the state’s currently activated Severe Cold Weather Protocol to remain in effect through at least noon on Sunday, February 15, 2026, as this long-duration stretch of brutally frigid temperatures in Connecticut continues.

The protocol was initially activated on Friday, January 23, 2026, and was most recently set to expire today at noon. However, the updated forecast now indicates that below seasonal averages with single-digit wind chills will remain for several additional mornings and evenings through this coming weekend.

Anyone in need of shelter or a warming center is urged to visit 2-1-1 at https://uwc.211ct.org/get-help/warmingcenters/ or call 2-1-1 to find your nearest warming center. Transportation can be provided if necessary. Please stay warm and safe!

Assumption Souper Bowl of Caring a Win for Neighbors in Need

🏈 Whether you’re Team Seahawks or Team Patriots, we can all agree that we need to tackle hunger for those most vulnerable in our community. And regardless of which team won the Big Game, our neighbors in need are the winners, thanks to your generous and gracious donations to help fill our pantry shelves 🥫🫶🏽

🌟The team of incredible volunteers from Assumption Parish and SASO Girls braved this past weekend’s arctic weather 🥶to hold the Parish’s annual Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive. The volunteers collected donations for local pantries, including Operation Hope🥫
Many thanks to our weekend warriors! 🙏🏽These volunteers did their best to keep warm and smiles bright as they welcomed, sorted and loaded donations. Saturday team – Karen Hoffman and her daughter Laurel, Reini Knorr, Dina Sullivan and Donan Meyer; Sunday team – Reini Knorr, Lara Stratton, Bob Kozeracki and Donan Meyer. Lauren Caiati and her daughter Sophia transported the donations to Operation Hope on Sunday once the drive concluded. The drive also raised $200 in cash donations for Operation Hope 🙌🏽

We are deeply grateful to Assumption Church for hosting the drive once again this year, to Reini Knorr and Lara Stratton for organizing the drive, to all donors and to all volunteers for helping feed our neighbors in need during this winter season 🥫🙏🏽🥫

Severe Cold Weather Protocol Extended through February 10

🥶🥶🥶 Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is extending the duration of the state’s currently activated Severe Cold Weather Protocol to remain in effect through at least noon on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, as this long-duration stretch of brutally frigid temperatures in Connecticut continues.

The protocol was initially activated on Friday, January 23, 2026, and was most recently set to expire on Thursday, February 5, 2026. However, the updated forecast now indicates that the bitterly cold weather Connecticut has been experiencing will remain even longer with well below normal temperatures expected to persist for at least another week. In particular, overnight temperatures for this coming week are expected to dip into the single digits nearly every night.

Anyone in need of shelter or a warming center is urged to visit 2-1-1 at https://uwc.211ct.org/get-help/warmingcenters/ or call 2-1-1 to find your nearest warming center. Transportation can be provided if necessary. Please stay warm and safe!

Wishing Mr. Lonnie All the Best in Retirement

📣 Our beloved Mr. Lonnie is celebrating his last day today at Operation Hope of Fairfield! ❤️ Joining us in 2005, Mr. Lonnie’s dedicated service here has included running the men’s shelter, managing the Community Kitchen and being a calming, reassuring and helpful presence to all who enter our building at 50 Nichols Street 🙏🏽 When Mr. Lonnie first started here, he worked the night shift running the men’s shelter and found it very rewarding to be able to help people with their challenges. It was really important to Mr. Lonnie to always learn someone’s name, to make people feel good that they were known and be treated like human beings. This was something that really helped him in his role, as much of it was about deescalating. Mr. Lonnie feels it is God’s blessing for him to have found his work here at Operation Hope, and he is grateful to feel he’s always been treated with respect by Operation Hope’s employees – but really, Mr. Lonnie, it’s all of us who have had the pleasure of working with you and feeling your respect! In his parting words, Mr. Lonnie says the thing that really stands out above all of his time at Operation Hope is that everyone needs love and kindness, and he’s been a blessed recipient and giver of both 🥰

Mr. Lonnie, you have been a gift to us, our community and most of all, the people we serve 🙏🏽 Thank you for your dedicated service, unwavering wisdom, kindness and ever-present smile. We will miss you dearly and wish you all the best in your well-deserved retirement! 💫

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on this Day of Service

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will forever hold a place in the hearts of millions of people around the world. While his messages focused on the immediate need for freedom from racism, discrimination and brutality toward African Americans, Dr. King also used his platform to shed light on global poverty and the need for nations to come together to combat this epidemic. In Dr. King’s Nobel Peace Prize address in 1964 he said, “There is nothing new about poverty. What is new, however, is that we have the resources to get rid of it.”

More than 50 years later, Dr. King’s message still rings true, and unfortunately poverty, which generally leads to hunger and homelessness, continues to permeate our society. But together, we can do something about it, and honor Dr. King by making our small part of the world a better place. Even though we are closed today, you can help us end hunger and homelessness right here at home by doing one of these three things on this Day of Service and at any time:

1. Donate to our Winter Appeal here, which supports our Food Pantry, affordable housing program, clinical services, senior services and more (any amount appreciated).

2. Donate non-perishables and personal care items for our Food Pantry clients and drop off at 636 Old Post Road, M-F, 9am-4:30pm (closed on major holidays including today). Our Pantry’s most needed items list is here.

3. Purchase non-perishables and personal care items from our Amazon wish list here and have them sent directly to us.

We cannot take on this task by ourselves and are truly grateful to be part of a community that cares so deeply for its neighbors in need. Thank you 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Operation Hope’s Office, Pantry and Community Kitchen will be closed January 19, 2026; the Office and Community Kitchen resume services January 20; the Pantry resumes service January 21. Please do not leave donations unattended when the Office and Community Kitchen are closed. Thank you.
