Please meet these inspiring young volunteers with big hearts! Sisters Teagan Church and Brea Church, and sisters Annie Gabriele and Katie Gabriele, are four cousins who wanted to make a difference in our community, together. Teagan and Brea came up with the idea of doing a summer project and after some online research about various community issues, including homelessness and poverty, the four cousins landed on Operation Hope. They brainstormed ideas of how to raise money and came up with a lemonade stand that also sold additional items, such as homemade baked goods.
From beginning to end, the girls created and managed this fundraiser, held in mid August. Other than supervision, their parents were not involved. They made signs to inform customers how Operation Hope helps end hunger and homelessness in the community. Thinking of where they would get the most traffic, the girls set up near Compo Beach in Westport. All of the customers asked about Operation Hope and the girls were able to share a little information about the work we do. Many people donated extra money and/or change from their purchases. The first day was so successful, they decided to do another stand the following day! All together, they raised over $179! They were proud to deliver the donation to Operation Hope themselves.
We are deeply grateful to Teagan, Brea, Annie and Katie for taking the initiative to further our mission to end hunger and homelessness, one person at a time. $179 will go a long way…it can feed a family of five for a month…it can shelter an individual for a month. Thank you, Teagan, Brea, Annie and Katie, for giving hope to your neighbors in need!
